Why Chronological Age Matters in Psychological Assessment

Psychological tests are built on norms — statistical tables that describe how a reference population performed at each age level. Why Ratio IQ Is No Longer Used

Ratio IQ had a fundamental problem: mental age does not increase linearly throughout life. A 40-year-old performing at a mental age of 20 would receive an IQ of 50 under the ratio method — despite performing normally for their age.
